Falcon trading in his wings for fangs? Actor Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in the MCU has said he would to get the chance to play Blade in the future. At a recent appearance at WizardCon, Mackie dropped this lovely soundbite: “I pretty much want to grow up to be Wesley Snipes. If we can bring back Blade, I’d definitely be Blade in every Blade movie.” But what about Falcon? How will Marvel handle this? Well, before you go wondering the fate of Sam Wilson, we should look at what Marvel’s plans, or lack of, are for the daywalker vampire, Eric Brooks, are. Since Marvel acquired the Blade property, along with the Punisher, from New Line back in 2014, rumors swirled about what was next for the property. A new movie? A Netflix series? Being a part of Agents of SHIELD? There was even a rumor of a Blade/Underworld crossover movie. But Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said Blade won’t be around anytime soon: “We’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer…What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.” Marvel comics did try to relaunch the comic as “Blade the Hunter” about Blade and his daughter, Fallon, but that is currently on hold for the foreseeable future. So while Mackie is pretty excited about playing Blade, it doesn’t look like Blade will be daywalking around the MCU for quite some time, And since Westley Snipes has said he wouldn’t mind revisiting the character, Mackie may have to compete with his Idol for the part.
