TweetEmailEnrique Rodriguez here with some movie news! Expanding the ever-growing Marvel/Sony cinematic universe; Sony Pictures has announced a Venom movie for October 5th, 2018. It will take the place of the Aquaman movie that has been pushed back to December 21st, 2018. Our favorite symbiote is slated to take on Tom Holland’s portrayal of the web-slinger in the new movie. The new film has not been titled and the character has not been cast as of yet. However, IMDB has noted that Dante Harper (World War Z), Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and David Michelinie (Ultimate Spiderman TV Series) as writers in the upcoming project which sounds very promising. Venom first appeared in Amazing Spiderman #252 back in 1984 as an alien goo that at first glance is harmless and becomes a super-powered black suit on the host and follows commands with a simple thought. Peter Parker was the first host to dawn it and then escaped when the goo shows its true self and tried to take over the host body. Different origins have been written since then but usually, sonics are this fantastic villain’s prime weakness. Venom hasn’t been on the big screen since Topher Grace’s portrayal back in 2007’s with Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 3 (the emo one Lol) and there has been talk since then but none of the projects have ever materialized. The comic books have offered up several incarnations of the symbiote from Peter Parker to photographer Eddie Brock to the now recent incarnations between Mac Gargan (The Scorpion) and Flash Thompson. With Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios collaborating (finally!!!), the great writers on board and Tom Holland as Spidey it looks like we’re all in for a hell of a ride. I’m excited to see who’s going to be cast as the new Venom (maybe Russell Crowe will get trolled again 🤔).
