Variety is reporting that Rogue One star Diego Luna has been cast in Universal Pictures upcoming remake of Scarface. Al Pacino famously portrayed Tony Montana in the 1983 version about a Cuban refugee who becomes involved in the drug trade in 1980’s Miami Florida. Scarface (1983) was directed by Brian DePalma and written by Oliver Stone. The original movie, Scarface: The Shame of A Nation was released in 1932 and was produced by Howard Hughs, directed by Howard Hawks and starred Paul Muni as Antonio “Tony” Camonte. Set in modern day times, Scarface will be a retelling about a Mexican immigrant who comes to Los Angeles and attempts to build an empire in the illegal narcotics trade. The directors chair has yet to be filled with director Antoine Fuqua dropping out due to a scheduling conflict.
