Alas Star Wars fans we have our title for Episode VIII, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Yes, 2017 is definitely building up to be another great Star Wars year. This week marked the return of one of our favorite web shows, The Star Wars Show. We’re glad to see it back and an added bonus, there’s a new co host! For those that didn’t have faith that Rogue One would be successful, we have some fantastic news about a huge milestone for the film. Continuing with Rogue One, It’s awards season folks and Rogue One was recognized with a couple Oscar nominations, we’ll cover that as well. Finally we’ll take a look at Marvel’s Star Wars comic books of this week. If your coordinates are set, let’s make the jump to light speed and get started!
As we mentioned, we have our new Star Wars title for Epsiode VIII, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The new title set off a wave of speculation on the internet with many fans believing we could see the demise of Luke Skywalker. Adding to the fire was the dissection of the word “Jedi” which fans pointed out is both singular and plural. One of the most promising ideas I’ve come across is combining the title “The Force Awakens” with “The Last Jedi” to read The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi. Star Wars nerds are definitely on top of their game when it comes to Star Wars news. Along with the title release fans noted the new red Star Wars logo for Episode VIII which looks slightly ominous and harkens back to the Return of The Jedi logo. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and will be released December 15, 2017.
The Star Wars Show finally made it’s return this week with some new segments and a host change. Along with Andi Guttierez will be the new co host, Anthony Carboni. Fans know Anthony Carboni as the host for the red carpet premieres of The Force Awakens as well as Rogue One. Former host Peter Townley will return from time to time to The Star Wars Show for occasional segments. Yes, we’ll all miss Peter but we think Anthony will fit in just fine. Take a look below at the return of The Star Wars Show!
Multiple media sources have confirmed that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has passed the $1 billion dollar mark worldwide. Domestically the film has made over $500 million to date. Rogue One will be Disney’s fourth movie of 2016 to pass $1 billion along with Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory and Zootopia. Congratulations to Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios on a fantastic year!
Continuing with Rogue One, it was announced this week that Rogue One has been nominated for two academy awards. The two categories include best sound mixing and best visual effects. The sound mix was outstanding in the film and as far visual effects, Industrial Light and Magic once again showed why they are the special effects wizards of the industry. Recreating the CGI likeness of Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia was very bold for a film of this magnitude. The Academy Awards will air February 26, 2017 on ABC.
Star Wars comic book releases for the week of January 22 include Star Wars issue #27 written by Jason Aaron, pencilled by Salvador Larroca with cover Art by Stuart Immonen.
Story synopsis: “Master Yoda finds himself on an all-new world…full of vicious, mysteriously powered children?! Not easy, will this be.”
That’s all we have for now, tell us what you think of everything we covered and we’ll see you next week.
