Louis Love ( Luis Lecca ) here with a spoiler light review of Star Wars The Force Awakens !

Star Wars The Force Awakens hits every note that made the original trilogy great. It’s exciting, magical, and most importantly it’s fun. In a way, it’s also the most complex Star Wars movie yet. The new villains have a history and our heroes do as well.

The action sequences are exciting. They are fast and intense, as George Lucas would say while filming A New Hope in the seventies. I really felt a sense of danger for our heroes while watching this film. That is extremely important and I credit the choice of using practical effects instead over using CGI. Plus, the actors seem to have done many of their own stunts. The space battles were also exciting – a throwback to the original films.

Gone are the Midi-chlorian and back is the mystical energy field known as the Force that brings back the magic we love. Anyone can become a Jedi. No blood test needed like in the prequels to determine how powerful you are. It feels as if The Force can be used by those it calls upon.

Remember how smart and witty the jokes were in the Original Star Wars Trilogy? That fun is back in this movie. The jokes are not silly nor childish but, smart. Making the characters more relatable and human.

The new characters have history as well as the characters we already know.  Several events have occurred in the 30 years since The Return of the Jedi staging the plot for The Force Awakens.  Kylo Ren is probably the villain with the most screen time of any Star Wars movie. He has many dimensions to him and of course, they leave some for the future films.  He is unlike any villain we’ve seen before.

Final thoughts

I can’t tell you where Star Wars The Force Awakens ranks among the original films. Only time will tell. After all, when I first saw The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 I hated it. Now, I think it’s the best movie of all time. I can say this with confidence. The Force Awakens is way better than any of the prequel movies.

One of the best things the movie succeeds in was in making the newcomers ( Rey, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Maz Kanata, Finn, BB-8 and the others ) extremely likable.

I give it a 9 out of 10. You must watch it!
