Avengers Age of Ultron is finally available to own on 3D Blu-ray combo pack, DVD, digital HD and on Disney Movies Anywhere. Just about everyone has seen the film by now but with an in-home release, you can expect much more. Does the Avengers: Age of Ultron Collector’s Edition Blu-ray combo pack give us everything we had hoped for? Well, almost. Upon watching the Avengers: Age of Ultron for first time on Blu-ray, I still stand by my opinion after watching it in theaters. I feel like the movie was good but it felt like some important scenes were left out of the final cut could have made the film even better. Like the full “Waters of Sight” scene with Thor (Chris Hemsworth). The CG was not really consistent in quality throughout the film, which also threw some of the mood off. The opening scene looked like something out of a video game while things such as the Hulk, Hulkbuster and Vision looked absolutely stunning. Scarlet Witch and the Vision still remain to be my favorite characters and parts in the film. Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) delivered a great performance and I don’t think the Vision (Paul Bettany) could have been any more perfect. Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron..Hulkbuster Iron Man armor (Robert Downey Jr.)..Ph: Film Frame..?Marvel 2015 Packaging The Collector’s Edition comes with a cardboard 3D like slip which covers the plastic case. By 3D, I mean you can actually feel the letters and Ultron as if they were popping out at you. It includes the 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and digital HD code. I personally don’t know many people that own a 3D TV but the 3D Blu-ray may come in handy a few years from now, when the 3D TV’s become more affordable. There are also offers to get two free digital comics (Hawkeye #1 and Black Widow #1) and an offer for a collectible Hulkbuster decal included with the purchase of the Collector’s Edition. Bonus Features Now the best thing about in-home releases are the bonus features included, especially when it comes to superhero films. You can watch things like deleted/extended/alternate scenes, in-depth behind-the-scenes looks at how the movie was made etc. One thing I know a lot of people were hoping would be included with this in-home release is the alternate ending which has been talked about quite a bit. With over 45 minutes of bonus features, the Collector’s Edition hit on just about all of these except one. Let me break the bonus features down for you. From the Inside Out – Making of Avengers: Age of Ultron This bonus feature was pretty much self-explanatory. It was the making of the movie which included how the CG scenes and characters were shot, how the set played a huge role in the film and also included some commentary by some of the cast and crew. The Infinite Six The Infinite Six was a featurette about the Infinity stones (Infinity gems) and how they are the biggest role in the MCU. I thought that this featurette was pretty cool because of the fact that they break each stone down a bit so people can understand what the stones do and why the Marvel heroes need to collect them before they get into the wrong hands. Global Adventure This featurette takes you on all the different locations from around the world that were used for the shooting of the film. It was just a few minutes in length but Marvel/Disney give you as much as they can with this type of featurette. Deleted & Extended Scenes We finally get to see some of the scenes that I feel should have been included in the film to help make more sense of things and it helps that there’s also a commentary option where director Joss Whedon discusses each scene and why they ultimately didn’t make the final cut. So here’s the kicker about this particular bonus feature, the Collector’s Edition does not include any alternate ending, nor do any of the in-home releases. There have been a lot of talk about the alternate endings that were shot for the film. Some rumors mentioned that the ending also showed other Marvel charters such as Ms. Marvel, Black Panther and even Spider-Man. Another alternate ending that was talked about was Hulk landing on Planet Hulk. I personally haven’t seen any of the alternate endings that were talked about but it would have been nice to have one included in this Collector’s Edition, if there in fact is one. Gag Reel As you can imagine, the gag reel is pretty funny. It shows that Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth are human and even forget their lines from time to time. Other than that, the are pretty much the ultimate beings. Audio Commentary with Joss Whedon You can have the option of watching the film just as it was in theaters or watching the film while getting commentary from writer and director Joss Whedon. This is a feature that is good for any aspiring writer or filmmaker or even if you’re just really interested in the film and would like to know even more about it. Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron..L to R: Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)..Ph: Jay Maidment..?Marvel 2015 Verdict Though this is not my favorite Marvel film, the Vision is enough reason to like this film. There’s a lot of characters involved in the story and it is a good build up for what’s to come from the upcoming Marvel films. The bonus features are all enjoyable but I wish that this Collector’s Edition included an alternate ending or an option to watch an extended version of the film. All in all, you get quite a lot out of this Collector’s Edition and for that, I give the Avengers: Age of Ultron Collector’s Edition a solid 8 fridges out of 10. If an alternate ending was included, I would have given it a full 10 or at least a 9.5 fridges. That’s if there is an alternate ending after all. Still, it’s a good buy to make. One quick mention before I end this, if you purchase the movie through Disney Movies Anywhere you get the exclusive clip, “Connecting the Universe” that explores the epic intertwining story lines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
