Ever since Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002 there has been a lingering question, would there ever be a new “Killer Instinct” fighting game? The 3D fighting game originally appeared on Arcade and SNES and received a sequel back in 1996 for both arcade and the Nintendo 64, but after that the series drifted into silence.
Today Microsoft announced via playXBLA.com that the trademark has been renewed, but kept quiet about what gamers can expect. An upgraded HD port of KI Gold(2) would be amazing if they could keep the game complete. The N64 version had to cut a few corners and details due to limitations.
A brand new “Killer Instinct” game would be awesome since gamers are currently in an era where fighting games are pretty amazing and plentiful thanks to the Fighting Game Community.
Until then, we’ll have to wait and see.
