Actress Anna Kendrick played the slightly ditzy Jessica in all the “Twilight” movies, but when she was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Natalie Keener in “Up in the Air,” people began to take notice. And now Anna Kendrick is the frontrunner for the female lead in Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

After the enormous success of all the Avenger’s related movies, Marvel Studios was in a hurry to get their sequels into production. After “Iron Man 3” and “Thor: The Dark World”, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” continues the story of Steve Rogers, a man out of time fighting a familiar face in this sequel. There’s no word yet on who Anna Kendrick would play. However, there are a few possibilities including S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Sharon Carter (niece of Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers’ girlfriend during WWII,) Bernie Rosenthal, a New York City lawyer, or maybe even Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, Avenger and daughter of Magneto.

Also in contention are Imogen Poots (“28 Weeks Later,”) and Felicity Jones (“Like Crazy,” “The Tempest.”)

Chris Evans is slated to return as Steve Rogers/Captain America. Last month, it was reported that Anthony Mackie signed on to star as The Falcon. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury, while Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, who transforms into the title villain The Winter Soldier.

The sequel to “Captain America: The First Avenger” is scheduled for release on April 4th, 2014. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by “Captain America: The First Avenger” scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
