Cyclops has decided to take down the Avengers, who he believes is a danger to everything they stand for.  The Avenger’s have gone into hiding and realize their only hope is Wanda aka Scarlet Witch who seems to be able to fight even with her powers, and she seems to put a sense of fear into the X-Men. The X-Men have locked down every single base and have decided to imprison the Avenger’s almost similar to the Civil War. What’s worse is that Cyclop’s leadership is being questioned by Namor, but even worse someone else he trusts is also betraying him.

Closer and closer we get to the epic conclusion of this series, it seems the Phoenix may be doing the same thing it did to Jean Grey before she lost all control, which led to major death and destruction, all funneled through emotions.

Things are heating up, with the five X-Men’s powers increased there is almost nothing they can’t do.  They find the Avenger’s hidden base.  Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take a serious loss which affects not only their numbers but also their morale.  They continue the fight.  The Scarlet Witch is now the key to the fight and works with Tony Stark (Iron Man) to help find a way to deal with the threat.

Matt Fraction wrote the story for this volume,
The battles were short in this volume, compared to volume 6.  More characters appear on both sides including the Avengers. The story focuses on the Scarlet Witch, Captain America, and an unsuited Iron Man (Tony Stark,) and the X-Men.
The Scarlet Witch’s dark powers vs the powerful flames of the Phoenix.
