With 2011 rapidly coming to an end, it is time to announce the ten most pirated films of the year. With some assistance from torrentfreak.com, Nuke the Fridge is proud to announce the winner or loser depending on which side of the ticket counter you’re on. The most downloaded film of 2011 goes to Vin Diesel’s “Fast Five” with over 9 million downloads.
All release formats, including cammed versions are counted. Afterwards, the data is carefully checked and corrected if needed.
Rank Movie Downloads
1 Fast Five 9,260,000
2 The Hangover II 8,840,000
3 Thor 8,330,000
4 Source Code 7,910,000
5 I Am Number Four 7,670,000
6 Sucker Punch 7,200,000
7 127 Hours 6,910,000
8 Rango 6,480,000
9 The King’s Speech 6,250,000
10 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 6,030,000
This year had a weaker showing than last year’s downloads. The winner for 2010 was James Cameron’s “Avatar” with 16 million. Could this be a testament to a poor year’s worth of film choices? Even in the upcoming Oscar race, no buzz has surrounded any film as a Best Picture candidate. It should also be noted that alternative pirating sources (such as cyberlockers and steaming sites) might also have an effect. However, since the total number of active BitTorrent users isn’t shrinking, the downloads may simply be spread out over more titles in 2011.
