The latest news for fans of “Captain America: The First Avenger” is a still photo from the film showing a H.Y.D.R.A. agent holding a futuristic gun while standing in front of some crates baring the H.Y.D.R.A. logo. For the neophyte Marvel Comics fan, H.Y.D.R.A. is a top-secret organization with roots that date back to the Third Reich during World War II.H.Y.D.R.A.’s principle goal is to gain world domination through subversive means. Prussian aristocrat and Death’s Head Squadron Wing Commander Baron Wolfgang von Strucker founded the organization. Disobeying orders from Adolf Hitler himself, the Gestapo was assigned to find Strucker and assassinate him. Assisted by his men and the infamous Red Skull, Strucker fled Germany to build a power base in the Far East. Building up the organization and branching out to different parts of the world, Strucker was not content to share power with the Red Skull, he severed ties with him and declared himself the Supreme Hydra.
The organization has endured for over five decades, but has missed opportunities for world domination on more than one occasion. H.Y.D.R.A. has been defeated by outside organizations or superheroes only to resurface later. Some of the problems have come from internal power struggles from within the organization itself. It is well known that H.Y.D.R.A. is an open opponent to S.H.I.E.L.D.
The classic attire for H.Y.D.R.A. agents is to wear green costumes with cowls concealing their entire head except for the mouth and chin. As you can see in the photo, the costume is close to the actual comic book depiction.
