Nuke the Fridge reported this story back in November of 2010 when we did an interview with voice actor Mark Ryan (Bumblebee/Jetfire) at the Nuke the Fridge Convention. He stated, “There is a name (actor) attached to the film that fans will be shocked and surprised to learn about. When I saw this person on set, I thought to myself, this is interesting. Where are they taking this (the film)? Then, I had a nice conversation with the person. I can’t say anything more, but people will love the casting choice.” Now, that name can officially be announced. Leonard Nimoy will lend his voice to Autobot Sentinel Prime. Sentinel Prime was the predecessor to Optimus Prime. Speculation has it that his lifeless robot form will be seen among the wreckage of the crashed Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on Earth’s moon. Nimoy’s voice will more than likely be used in flashbacks. Nimoy is no stranger to the Transformers universe. He was cast as the voice of Galvatron in 1986’s animated feature “Transformers: The Movie.” In that film, a mortally wounded Megatron is given a second chance at defeating the Autobots by the planet-sized Transformer Unicron. Imbued with more energy and an improved form, Megatron is reincarnated as the formidable Decepticon Galvatron. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” will arrive in theaters on July 1st. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hugo Weaving, Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, John Turturro, Patrick Dempsey, Alan Tudyk, Frances McDormand, Frank Welker, Mark Ryan, Peter Cullen, Tom Kenny, Karyn Parsons, and Tyrese Gibson. Michael Bay directs.
