Original “Alien” designer H.R. Giger is assisting (as an advisor) with the construction of an eight foot tall animatronic “Space Jockey” alien, which was first seen in the opening moments of the original 1979 “Alien” film. In “Prometheus” the Space Jockey won’t just be sitting. Director Ridley Scott has plans for this ill-fated extraterrestrial.
An insider told Sky Movies:
“I’ve had further confirmation that the Space Jockey creature is definitely in Prometheus and has been built as an eight foot animatronic. I’ve also had it confirmed that HR Giger is working on the project but only in an advisory capacity. By the way, people are going to be in for a shock when they sit down to watch Prometheus and there’s an enormous semi-human head piloting a spaceship.”
Deadline reports “Prometheus” has become something “more original,” and the Jon Spaihts draft that kicked things off has been reworked by Damon Lindelof and Ridley Scott.
“Prometheus” is scheduled to roll before the cameras later this year. Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, and Michael Fassbender will star, while Ridley Scott directs. The film is from 20th Century Fox and the highly anticipated release is slated for June 8th, 2012.
** Rumors are circulating that actor Scoot McNairy may be up for a role in “Prometheus.” The success and acclaim for last year’s low-budget film “Monsters” has gained McNairy international attention.
