Scorsese and De Niro Remaking ‘Taxi Driver’?

Yesterday came word that Martin Scorsese might be reteaming with Robert De Niro on a new mobster film. Now today word emerges that the duo might also reteam for a remake of their own classic film, “Taxi Driver.”

Danish director Lars Von Trier has challenged Scorsese and De Niro to remake their 1976 classic. The idea is similar to a challenge that took place in 2003 between Von Trier and fellow Danish filmmaker Jorgen Leth. Von Trier challenged Leth to remake he own 1967 film “The Perfect Human” five times, each with a different obstacle, such as making the film animated. The challenge resulted in “The Five Obstructions.”

Over the weekend, while doing press in Berlin, Martin Scorsese confirmed the Von Trier “Taxi Driver” project.

Is anyone interested in seeing a remake of “Taxi Driver”? And does the fact that it would be Scorsese and De Niro remaking it make this idea any more interesting?
