“Avengers Assemble!”  “The Avengers film started filming today.  Yesterday writer-director Joss Whedon posted a letter on Whedonesque.com.  It states:“Tomorrow we start shooting,” writes the geek auteur, before adding, “I THINK I’m legally permitted to say that.” Whedon doesn’t offer any hints about the plot of the movie, although he does say that they’ll be shooting “the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene,” which is probably a joke, but a boy can dream, can’t he? (Elsewhere in the letter, Whedon says that he’s pretty sure the movie is about the Justice League.) The Avengers, currently slated for a May 4th release next year, will unite the lead characters from Marvel’s Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor into one mega-adventure.

“The Avengers” is written by Zak Penn, and will star:

Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Don Cheadle as Colonel James Rhodes (Possibly as War Machine)
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton (Hawkeye)
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (The Black Widow)
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers (Captain America)
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill
Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson
Kevin Pennington as Agent Wendell Vaughn
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Lou Ferrigno as The Incredible Hulk (voice)
Robin Atkin Downes as Baron Helmut Zemo (voice) (rumored)

“The Avengers” is scheduled for a May 4th, 2012 release.  Joss Whedon directs this epic with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
