20th Century Fox’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” has accumulated a worldwide gross of $453 million. Now the studio is in the planning stages to make more films detailing the rise of the super intelligent chimpanzee Caesar and his army of apes. Actor and motion capture alum Andy Serkis has signed a seven-figure deal with Fox to play the role of the ape leader in multiple sequels.

Other persons expected to return to the blooming franchise are director Rupert Wyatt whose original deal came with a sequel option, as well as, screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who are producing with Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark.

Serkis has played many notable roles using CGI motion capture techniques. He was Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” films, and King Kong in “King Kong.” He will next appear in Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tin Tin.” Also, he has wrapped his role reprising Gollum in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” films. He is currently serving as Jackson’s second unit director on the project.

Finally, it is reported Fox will wage a campaign on Serkis’s behalf to have him nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” Previously, he was ignored by the Academy for his work on “The Lord of the Rings.”
